I took a few field trips around the region... totally worth it! The
sights were amazing, the food was great, and me, Graham and Bogo had quite a few
adventures (some I never wish to relive, the rest... amazing).
Tilcara
I set out for a two day trip to Tilcara with the girls I met in Salta.
Tilcara is a tiny little village in the northern province of Jujuy (right above
the province of Salta). The town is located at 2,465m above sea level, in
the middle of one of the hills... which provided for great views of the
surrounding mountains. At night, everyone goes out to the "Peņas"
which are outdoor areas where local bands play music (even the regional salteņa
music) and everyone dances the traditional folk dances (I even picked up a few
steps - it was great fun).
Valles Calchies
This route took us through the valleys south of the city of Salta, where I
think we got climbing and jumping out of our system... at least for a while.
Bungee Jumping
Garganta del Diablo
This means "throat of the devil," it is a natural cut into part of
the mountainside. We climbed into it, and then up its' walls, and the
views were breathtaking, not to mention colorful. Pay attention to the
little white specs in some of the pictures: me and Bogo climbed up different
sides and took pictures - we look tiny!

Los Castillos
Named "The Castles" because of the pillar-like nature of the
rock. We climbed down towards the rocks and crossed the river, on to
(oops) the private property surrounding the formations.
Other sights along the way
Northern Circuit (Jujuy)
Me and Bogo took the advice of a tour map, and decided to view the northern
circuit which went up into the province of Jujuy.
Quebrada del Toro
This is the path that the "tren a las nubes" follows, it wasn't
working, however, while we were in the north.
Las Salinas and Surroundings
Las salinas is a large salt flat, the white goes as far as the eye can
see. All the area around it consists of dessert and sand, we even
encountered a sand storm and some llamas.
Moņtanas de Jujuy
Finally, we passed by the famous Cerro de Siete Colores, the hill with seven
colors.
